The city of Sendai is a peaceful one. Mornings are quiet, and nights quieter. Streets are always neat and orderly, and people are incredibly polite.
On one night of the year, the entire community of Sendai floods the streets. During Sendai’s yearly Tanabata festival, the young and old come together on the streets and watch the firework show together. Closed-off roads are lined with families and picnic blankets, parks are filled with food vendors, and pathways are engulfed by a sea of people.
During this one night, Sendai is consumed with chaos.
